  • How to tell when vegetables are ready to harvest.
  • Troubleshooting common problems.

Why garden in the fall?

Vegetables and flowers grow best when days are warm and evenings are cool. For us here in North Texas, this happens twice a year: in the spring and in the fall.

During our summers, evening temperatures are often hotter than vegetables can handle, which is why gardening can sometimes be disappointing for many North Texans. Luckily, fall is our chance to try again.

You might be surprised to learn just how many things can be grown in our fall season including tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, eggplant and more traditional cool season veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, and brussels sprouts.
